Munich Airport again wins Europe’s only five-star airport title
Germany’s Munich Airport has retained its title as Europe's first and only five-star airport, according to a new audit conducted by UK-based international air transport rating organisation Skytrax Institute.
Located in Bavaria, Germany, the airport was awarded the five-star airport title for the first time in May 2015.
Prior to Munich, the only airports to win five stars were in Asia, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokio-Haneda and Singapore.
In January, Doha Airport in Qatar in the Middle East joined the list of airports with the five-star rating.
Munich Airport received the award again after experts from the Skytrax Institute evaluated the quality of the services and the overall passenger experience offered by the airport.
“The auditors assessed several projects and measures implemented by the airport since its five-star certification audit in 2015."
As concluded by the auditors, Munich Airport 'not only maintained its outstanding quality but actually improved on it'.
The auditors assessed several projects and measures implemented by the airport since its five-star certification audit in 2015.
The new projects and measures included an additional security screening area in Terminal One, a new satellite building, and training offered to the staff with direct passenger contact.
Recently, the airport was ranked the world's fourth best airport at the World Airport Awards, based on international passenger surveys conducted on approximately 14 million passengers worldwide.
